ByteCase Hub Local · Offline licensing

A license request starts with an email.

Create the request in Hub, attach the saved file to an email, and import the signed license returned after review.

ByteCase Hub Local uses a vendor-issued offline license for new case work. You can request a 60-day trial or ask about an annual license. Requests are exchanged by email and reviewed by a person before a license is issued.

How to request and activate a Hub license

  1. Install the signed Hub pilot

Use the official Windows installer, then open ByteCase Hub from the Start menu. Complete the department and named examiner settings.

  2. Save your activation request

Open Licensing → Create trial / activation request and save the .bcreq file. This request identifies the installation and configured examiner; it is not a license.

  3. Email the saved .bcreq attachment

Send the request to contact@forensicsbyte.com. Use the subject ByteCase Hub license request. Attach the saved .bcreq yourself and say whether you are requesting a 60-day trial, annual license, renewal, or installation transfer.

  4. Receive the reviewed license

Forensics Byte reviews the request and returns a signed .bclic for an approved request. Emailing a request does not automatically activate Hub.

  5. Import the .bclic in Hub

Open Licensing → Import signed license…, select the returned file, and confirm the license type, examiner, and expiry shown in Hub. Activation and normal case work then operate offline.

Existing saved cases remain readable and supported saved-document exports remain available without an active license. Creating, editing, or importing case records requires activation.

What belongs in the email

Attach the .bcreq generated by Hub and identify the request type. Use your professional contact details so Forensics Byte can reply and clarify the department or named examiner if needed. Keep a copy of the request and returned license with your software administration records.

Do not attach case folders, evidence, extraction reports, screenshots of case material, passwords, or credentials. The request file contains a random installation ID, ByteCase version, agency and examiner identity, timestamp, and nonce. It does not contain cases, evidence, findings, file paths, network identifiers, hardware inventory, or credentials.

Review existing work before activation

Hub lets you review existing local cases and export supported saved module documents before activation. A license enables creating, editing, and importing case records. When a trial or annual term ends, saved records remain available for review and supported document exports.

The 0.29 pilot includes Intake, Evidence, Acquire, Verify, Objectives, Artifacts, Findings, and Workflow. Notes and the Hub Report screens remain deferred.
